Audition Information

  • Please enter through The Green Room at the Princess Theatre, 1226 Meade Avenue

  • Audition dates and times

    • Sunday, August 21, afternoon and evening

      • Doors open at 1:15 for youth auditions, 6:00 for adult auditions

      • Mandatory parent informational meeting begins at 1:30

      • Youth auditions are from 2:00-5:00

      • Adult auditions are from 6:30-9:30

    • Monday, August 22, evening

      • Doors open at 5:15 for youth auditions, 7:00 for adult auditions

      • Mandatory parent informational meeting begins at 5:30

      • Youth auditions are from 6:00-7:30

      • Adult auditions are from 7:30-9:00

  • Audition details

    • You are welcome, but not required, to attend both audition nights. Parents need only attend one informational audition meeting.

    • In addition, each actor and actress will be expected to:

      • Learn and demonstrate choreography taught onsite

      • Read selected lines from the script.

      • Learn and sing at least one piece of music from the score.

  • Expected general rehearsal schedule

    • In general, rehearsals are Monday-Thursday from 6:00-9:30

    • Actual days and times per week will vary based on age and role

    • At the beginning, youth will be required on average 2 nights per week from 6:00-8:00. Number of days and length of rehearsal will increase as we get closer to performance dates.

  • Performance dates

    • November 4th and 5th at 7:00 PM

    • November 6th, 12th, and 13th at 2:00 PM

 

  • Roles: Due to the complexity and nature of the show, there is a heavy emphasis on singing and dancing

Adult roles

  • Willy Wonka - actor/singer/dancer

    • Audition songs: Pure Imagination or Candy Man

    • The mysterious title character. He is charming, enigmatic, charismatic and slightly sinister. A chocolatier who guides children and their parents on a tour of his factory, he is looking for someone to take over his candy empire.

    • Vocal range: top F4, bottom G2

  • Candy Man/Phineous Trout - actor/singer/dancer

    • Audition Song: Golden Ticket

    • A reporter covering the Golden Ticket Story

    • Vocal range: top D4, bottom A2

  • Grandpa Joe - actor/singer/dancer

    • Audition Song: Golden Ticket

    • A caring, patient, and kindhearted man; loving Grandfather to Charlie Bucket. He accompanies Charlie to Willy Wonka’s factory and it gives him a new burst of youthful vigor.

    • Vocal range: top F4, bottom Bb2

  • Mr. Bucket - actor/singer (small singing role)

    • Audition Song: Golden Ticket

    • Charlie Bucket’s nurturing father. He is always trying to maintain an energetic positivity.

    • Vocal range: top F4, bottom B2

  • Mr. Salt - actor/singer (small singing role)

    • Audition Song: Golden Ticket

    • A wealthy British upperclassman who regularly flaunts his wealth and privilege; father to Veruca Salt who shamelessly spoils his daughter.

    • Vocal range: top E4, bottom D3

  • Mrs. Bucket - actor/singer

    • Audition Song: Golden Ticket

    • Charlie Bucket’s nurturing mother; she is always trying to maintain an energetic positivity.

    • Vocal range: top F5, bottom Bb3

  • Mrs. Gloop - actor/singer

    • Audition Song: Golden Ticket

    • A plump, jolly German woman with a bustling personality; Augustus Gloop’s overindulgent mother.

    • Vocal range: top E4, bottom B3

  • Ms. Teavee - actor/singer

    • Audition Song: Golden Ticket

    • An old-fashioned housewife; she is Mike Teavee’s permissive and clueless mother.

    • Vocal range: top F5, bottom B3

  • Mrs. Beauregarde - actor/singer

    • Audition Song: Golden Ticket

    • Violet’s enthusiastic “helicopter parent” who focuses all her attention on her daughter; she indulges Violet’s worst competitive impulses.

    • Vocal range: top E5, bottom D4

 

Children’s roles - ages 8 -18 years

  • Veruca Salt - actor/singer/dancer

    • Audition Song: Golden Ticket / Oompa #3

    • A wealthy, spoiled Brit; she is accustomed to having her father indulge her every whim and desire. One of the Golden Ticket winners, she is subjected to the squirrels’ nut chute.

    • Vocal range: top F5, bottom G3

  • Violet Beauregarde - actor/singer/dancer

    • Audition Song: Golden Ticket / Oompa #3

    • A brassy girl with a competitive streak; Violet seizes every opportunity to show off. She turns into a giant blueberry. LOVES chewing gum.

    • Vocal range: top F5, bottom G3

  • Charlie Bucket - actor/singer/dancer

    • Audition Song: Golden Ticket / Oompa #3

    • Our story’s shy, earnest protagonist. From a modest home life, he is humble and noncompetitive while maintaining a sense of wonder about the world. One of the Golden Ticket winners whose honesty and general good nature win Wonka over.

    • Vocal range: top G4, bottom G2

  • Augustus Gloop - actor/singer

    • Audition Song: Golden Ticket / Oompa #3

    • A gluttonous German boy; cheerful and jolly, he defines himself by his ability to eat mass quantities of food. One of the Golden Ticket winners whose constant overeating is enabled and encouraged by Mrs. Gloop.

    • Vocal range: top G4, bottom B2

  • Mike Teavee - actor/singer

    • Audition Song: Golden Ticket / Oompa #3

    • An obnoxious, hyperactive child addicted to television, video games, and the internet; one of the Golden Ticket winners and Ms. Teavee’s son.

    • Vocal range: top G4, bottom G2
